Charles Sampson and Rev. Albert Mauron have been fighting for years for equalization and fairness with not much help from recent Cape Breton Regional Municipalitiy mayors or anyone else. In addition, what have the major political parties – NDP, Liberals and Progressive Conservatives – done for us besides making Halifax a bigger and better place? Most of the politicians are all alike. They get to Province House, vote and that's it.
Current CBRM Mayor Amanda McDougall-Merrill has been reported as saying that in her three years as mayor Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston has never had a meeting with her or returned her calls. If that is the case local voters need to smarten up when the next provincial election comes around. In a previous letter, Sampson also said that voters better start thinking about the next election and get rid of politicians who are voted in and do nothing. All we get is false promises. I can’t say that about MLA Fred Tilley and his team though. He’s always been there for me and others. You can go into their office and talk to them.
People should have been fighting for Nova Scotians for Equalization Fairness long ago. Sampson and Maroun have done more than anyone. People find it hard these days with the price of food, gas and oil rising, and less money coming in. Sampson said in one of his letters it’s time for real political accountability. For politicians and political parties who are doing nothing to earn your vote, treat them as they should be treated in the next elextion.
