Kyle Dubas went sleepless in Seattle, hoping his Maple Leafs have months and not weeks to make all his late\u002Dnight moves mean something in playoffs.
Sandwiched by an afternoon practice, Dubas first swapped defenceman Rasmus Sandin and forward Pierre Engvall in respective deals to Washington and the New York Islanders.
“It certainly does change the mix,” Keefe said of more action Tuesday. “But that’s why you want to prioritize character people. I think Kyle’s done a tremendous job of that.” Sandin was just turning the corner in Toronto, a former first-rounder himself, 29th overall in 2018. He had 20 points in 52 games this year but, positionally, a spot had to be created for incoming top-four blueliner McCabe.
Schenn, aged 33, is at $850,000. Chosen fifth overall from the Kelowna Rockets, many felt Schenn was rushed into the NHL on a team then too far from contention, before being traded to Philadelphia in 2012 for forward James van Riemsdyk. His many travels since included two titles with the Lightning.
