It took firefighters a month to bring the 5,800-hectare Sudbury 17 fire under control
Declared June 4, the fire burning north of Massey and about three kilometres west of Madawanson Lake grew to more than 5,800 hectares before it was declared under control on July 3.
The other major fire in the region, Sudbury 10, which was declared June 2 continues to burn 1,370 hectares west of Fox Lake. The fire is now under control. One new fire was confirmed in the region on Monday. Sudbury 23 is about 0.2 hectares in size and is located 23 kilometres northeast of Lake Wanapitei. It is being held.
