A group of 20 immigrants became Canadian citizens during a ceremony at Hilton Garden Inn Sudbury on Saturday, which just so happened to also be Canada Day
This year’s Canada Day was a particularly special time for 20 people at Hilton Garden Inn Sudbury on Saturday, with the day marking their first as Canadian Citizens.
Sorangwala’s parents, Moizali and Rizwana, flew to Sudbury from India to be there for the ceremony and enjoy Canada for the summer months. Sorangwala has been in Canada since 2015, having relocated in order to pursue opportunities in the financial services sector. His wife, also from India, achieved permanent residency in 2022.
During Saturday’s ceremony, Aramide Ogunleye watched her husband, Bolaji, swear the Oath of Canadian Citizenship, with their family, originally from Nigeria, filling a row of seats in support of the family patriarch. “It feels so great, so good, finally we are citizens of Canada, which allows us so many things we couldn’t as permanent residents,” she said, adding that in addition to being able to vote, they will be able to work wherever their training qualifies them to work.
