SaltWire Network | Posted: 4 hours ago | Updated: 4 hours ago | 5 Min ReadThis is the latest court report for Kings and West Hants counties.Kyle Delbert Hill, 32, of Kentville, has been handed a federal sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of unlawfully possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Hill to two years in federal custody on each of the possession for the purpose of trafficking charges, to be served concurrently. The court imposed a lifetime firearms prohibition and a forfeiture order for offence-related property and granted a secondary DNA order.
Hill committed the offences in New Minas on Nov. 26, 2020; in North Alton on April 13, 2021; and in Kentville on Sept. 1, 2021, and on June 26, 2022. A co-accused on the charge of stealing property from Foodland is scheduled to stand trial on Dec. 7, 2023.Sober Theodore Cockerill, 47, of Greenwood, will serve a period of imprisonment in the community after being found guilty of three counts of assault; a charge of choking a person in committing an assault, and a charge of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm.
On Feb. 22, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Cockerill a 150-day conditional sentence order, to be followed by 18 months of probation. As part of the conditional sentence, Cockerill will serve house arrest for the first 90 days, to be followed by daily curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time.
