Katy ISD board selects new president as it swears in 3 new members
, three new board members were sworn into office on the Katy ISD board of trustees on Monday, and new officers were elected among the board.
Amy Thieme, Morgan Calhoun and Mary Ellen Cuzela took the oath of office and were sworn in as Katy ISD board members for Position 3, Position 4 and Position 5, respectively.Once sworn in, the newly configured board voted to elect Victor Perez as the new board president. They also elected Thieme as vice president and Dawn Champagne, who holds Position 7, as secretary.
Rebecca Fox nominated Lance Redmon, Position 2 trustee, for the position of board president, but he did not secure the seat, receiving votes from Fox and himself. Redmon in turn nominated Fox for the position of vice president, but Fox also received votes from Redmon and herself.Following the vote, Fox said that her votes against Thieme and Perez were due to their nascency to the board. Perez was elected to Position 1 in May of 2022.
