Sha’Carri Richardson, Emma Coburn, and Fred Kerley are set to compete in Qatar on Friday.
Emma Coburn will make her steeplechase season debut in Doha, along fellow Olympian Val Constien, who recently signed a contract with Nike. Mekides Abebe, Winfred Yavi, and world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech have the fastest PRs in the field and will be the women to beat. But also keep an eye out for the Ugandan, Peruth Chemutai—the 2020 Olympic champion in the event.Sha’Carri Richardson lines up as one of the favorites, coming off an impressive 10.57 wind-aided performance in April.
The field, though, is deep as Shericka Jackson—who won bronze in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Olympics—and British sprint star Dina Asher-Smith will look to start their Diamond League seasons off strong. Also in the mix should be a trio of Americans: Melissa Jefferson, TeeTee Terry, and Abby Steiner. The men’s 200 meters has some heavy hitters—in fact, half of the field from the 2020 Olympic final is entered.
