Texas' Keondre Coburn, a Westfield grad, excited for 'unbelievable' chance to play for Chiefs

Returning for a fifth season at Texas paid off for Westfield graduate Keondre Coburn when the nose tackle was drafted by the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs.AUSTIN — Keondre Coburn was in full-on dad mode when the call he’d been awaiting finally came last Saturday.

The nose tackle affectionately dubbed “Snacks” by Texas teammates let all the emotions wash over him in that moment, the culmination of all the work he’d put in to become worthy of a place in the pros. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing around 350 pounds, Coburn had been a useful run stopper as the Longhorns’ starting nose tackle for three seasons. But, as Texas coach Steve Sarkisian explained last August, “I didn’t want him to be a one-dimensional player. He’s got to have the ability to rush the passer.”Despite appearing in 35 games with 33 starts from 2019-21, Coburn recorded 28 total quarterback pressures, including just three across 389 snaps in 2021, per tracking data from Pro Football Focus.

The suspect, 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, has been at large since the shooting just before midnight Friday in the rural town of Cleveland. By Sunday evening, authorities said more than 250 officers from multiple jurisdictions have joined the manhunt and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put up $50,000 in reward money for tips leading to Oropeza’s capture. Police recovered the AR-15-style rifle that they said Oropeza used in the shootings. Authorities were not sure if he was carrying another weapon.
