THE PICKS THAT WERE TRADEDWas moved to the Arizona Coyotes on March 1 in exchange for defenceman Jakob Chychrun. The pick was top-five protected and would have become a 2024 first round if the Senators had moved up in the lottery. Chychrun will play a big role in the club’s top four next season and was a good fit last season.The Senators sent the selection to the Chicago Blackhawks as part of deal to sweeten the pot to get the contract of defenceman Nikita Zaitsev off the books.
While DeBrincat submitted a list of teams where he’d be willing to sign an extension, including the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights and the Detroit Red Wings, some can be dismissed immediately. The indications are DeBrincat will have to be open-minded on possible destinations or he could find himself back with the Senators next season and on a discounted contract to boot.
DeBrincat has been linked to the Philadelphia Flyers in a trade for former Ottawa 67’s forward Travis Konecny, but it’s doubtful he’ll be moved this summer.
