The who\u0027s who of the hockey world will gather in Windsor this summer in honour of Ottawa Senators\u0027 assistant coach Bob Jones.
A former head coach of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals and a longtime assistant with the Windsor Spitfires, Jones and Smith are longtime friends from their days together in Windsor.
He’s working hard to prepare for the next season and finished the year on the bench after spending most of his time as the eye in the sky for the Senators.“Jones has always been mentally tough and everyone thinks they’re mentally tough and people overcome things,” Smith said. “It’s amazing because nobody would blame anybody in that situation for kind of giving in and saying, ‘You know what, you’ve got me’.
“The other one is he’s always been on the bench his whole life,” Smith said. “For our players to see him, you think hockey is hard or sitting out one night or getting cut or sent to the minors, are all situational things that are hard for a second. This is real life. Players have seen this first-hand.”
