Rocco Tullio has decided to go it alone in a bid to purchase the Ottawa Senators.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed Monday at the NHL general manager’s meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., the first round of bids for the Senators have been received and the ones they have on the table are being studied with a fine-tooth comb.
But Tullio had the financing in place to try to make that deal to buy the Senators, or he wouldn’t have approached Melnyk in the first place. He purchased the Generals in 2007 and has built the club into a successful franchise. Postmedia has also confirmed the Markham-based Remington Group, which is led by Christopher Bratty and includes Vancouver-born actor Ryan Reynolds, has also entered a comprehensive bid and sources say this group wants to put Ottawa on the map “to make it destination.”
The Kimel’s also have to be considered among the group of frontrunners because they were part owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins before the club sold to the Fenway Sports Group in 2021.
