The 26-year-old was fatally shot while off duty last weekend in East New York, Brooklyn.
Fayaz succumbed to his injuries Tuesday afternoon, a day after Jones was taken into custody at a Rockland County motel. There was deep sorrow as Fayaz's flag-draped casket was escorted by officers, followed by his wife and two children, and the city's top leaders, including Mayor Eric Adams.NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said Fayaz, a five-year veteran of the force, was in line for a promotion.Last weekend, Fayaz was off duty when he went to East New York with his brother-in-law to buy a car he had found on Facebook Marketplace. However, authorities say it was a setup.
