UPDATE: Family, friends and the city are saying their final goodbyes to an NYPD officer taken far too soon. A funeral service is underway for Officer Adeed Fayaz, who was shot and killed earlier this week in a botched robbery.
The 26-year-old was fatally shot while off duty last weekend in East New York, Brooklyn.
Fayaz succumbed to his injuries Tuesday afternoon, a day after Jones was taken into custody at a Rockland County motel. A five-year veteran of the department -- a husband and a father of two young kids -- is now gone, but not forgotten. Anwar said he met Fayaz a few months ago in passing in the neighborhood, adding it was a brief exchange but the officer's friendly personality is what resonated.Those kinds of positive remarks were prominent as people honored Fayaz's life. He was a young man who some said gave his life to family and this Brooklyn community.
