Pitcher Garrett Whitlock will need surgery to fix an elbow problem.

Whitlock will consult with Dr. Jeff Dugas at Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham on Wednesday and is hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery. Whitlock already had the surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow in 2019 and was sidelined for the entire 2020 season.. “Obviously, everything can change, but that’s kind of the thing right now. But, yeah, that’s what we’re looking at.
That led to plans for Whitlock to join the starting rotation, and he has at times. But injuries have made it hard for him to stay there. “I think just kind of mentally where I’m at is I feel like I’m able to connect to a lot of Boston fans,”. “Boston is a city built on resilience. It’s a city built on determination, hard work and everything, and I feel like I’m really starting to connect with them personally. There’s a reason I’m wearing this : ‘Ain’t found a way to kill me yet.’ It’s one of those things where it’s like, hey, just because I’m dealt another blow, it’s all about how you get back up, how you fight.
