Rasmus Andersson, Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Huberdeau, Noah Hanifin and Trevor Lewis scored for the Flames against Senators goaltender Kevin Mandolese. It was Mandolese’s first NHL start since replacing the injured Cam Talbot earlier in the week. Stutzle scored the lone Senators goal against Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who made 23 saves.
On defence, Erik Brannstrom stepped in for Nick Holden. Brannstrom hadn’t played since the 5-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. At the other end, Markstrom was sharp, his best stops coming off Brady Tkachuk and Gauthier when they slipped behind the Flames defence.Article contentFirst, it was Andersson, taking advantage of a suddenly fragile Senators power play by scoring shorthanded. It was the 10th shorthanded goal allowed by the Senators — the most in the NHL — the second on back-to-back nights and the seventh since returning from the All-Star break.
“Those are the biggest shifts, the ones after goals and at the end of periods and today we just weren’t sharp enough.”
