The upcoming iteration is based on the widely popular game of the same name that was released in 2014.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tammi complimented the Five Nights at Freddy's star Josh Hutcherson, revealing the intense process of searching for the right actor as Mike. Tammi also said she "hopes to be able to do more" entries if the first movie is successful, alluding to a plan for the horror movie franchise. Read what Tammi said below:
"We went through an intensive process for this role, because he really anchors the whole film. I talked to Josh early on and we just kept coming back to him... He had such a grasp for the character and gave Mike a real lived-in feeling, which was what the character needed. I'm excited for people to see Josh in a slightly new light".
What Five Nights At Freddy's Could Mean for Blumhouse & Josh Hutcherson If Five Nights at Freddy's becomes a box office success, it'll add to the growing number of Blumhouse horror franchises, a list that includes Paranormal Activity, The Purge, and Insidious. Blumhouse also produced David Gordon Green's recent Halloween trilogy and the upcoming The Exorcist: Believer, the start of a new trilogy of sequels to the 1973 William Friedkin classic.
With Tammi's comments about Josh Hutcherson, it will be interesting to see if he will continue to be a large part of a potential Five Nights at Freddy's franchise moving forward. Hutcherson, mainly known for his role as Peeta in The Hunger Games franchise, could enter a whole new chapter of his career as a "scream king" in horror cinema. However, this is not Hutcherson's first time as the lead in a horror film.
