Inaugural hockey game fundraiser raised $1,775 for Prince George RCMP Victim Services Unit and Prince George Firefighter Charitable Society.
The Prince George Firefighters earned bragging rights, defeating the Prince George RCMP 9-5 in the game Saturday afternoon at Kopar Memorial Arena, but local charities were the big winners.
RCMP superintendent Shaun Wright bucked up his $50 contribution to Prince George Fire Rescue chief Cliff Warner after losing a friendly wager on the game’s outcome. Wright also had to wear a firefighters jersey as part of the bargain. “This is the first time in a very long time that police officers and firefighters have played against one another in a hockey game here in Prince George, and it’s clear from the response we received that the community was just as excited as we were to have this match-up happen,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.
