The presidential election is less than 200 days away and new polling shows Democrats are moving further to the right when it comes to the border.

FILE - Migrants are taken into custody by officials at the Texas-Mexico border, Jan. 3, 2024, in Eagle Pass, Texas.at the Southern border as opposed to it being a politically driving media narrative. Close to 60% of Democrats specifically said “illegal” immigration is a problem.

The polling shows Democrats might be opening up to some Trump-era policies with 42% of Democrats saying they would support mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, 38% support implementing travel bans from certain countries, 35% support shutting down the southern border completely and 30% at least somewhat support ending automatic citizenship for U.S. born children.

The Fact Check Team contacted U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the most recent information regarding migrant encounters at the border. According to correspondence from the agency, the latest numbers for April had not yet been released.Comparing these figures to the past, it's evident that while there has been a decrease, the numbers remain high.
