Eskasoni RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a gas station on Castle Bay Road on Friday afternoon. CONTRIBUTEDESKASONI — A 30-year-old Eskasoni man has been charged with robbing a gas station in the community.
On Friday at approximately 12:35 p.m., Eskasoni RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a gas station on Castle Bay Road. RCMP officers learned that a man had entered the gas station, armed with a knife, stole cash from the till, and then fled on foot. No one was injured during the incident.
Approximately 45 minutes later, RCMP officers located the suspect and attempted to arrest him, however the man fled on foot. According to the RCMP, officers gave chase and the man was apprehended after he had tripped and fallen. According to police, struggle ensued, resulting in an officer delivering a strike to the man who was subsequently handcuffed. The man suffered minor injuries as a result of the strike and he was treated and released by EHS.
During the booking-in process at the Eskasoni detachment, police say the man assaulted an officer, resulting in the suspect being immediately taken to a cell and lodged for the night. The officer was not injured. Charles Marshall, 30, of Eskasoni, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and two counts of breach of probation. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court on Tuesday.
