Eskasoni RCMP have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man after an armed robbery at a gas station in the community on Sept. 1. - Stock photoESKASONI, N.S. — Eskasoni RCMP have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man following an armed robbery at a gas station in the community.
RCMP were called to a station on Castle Bay Road just after 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 after reports of a man entering the building with a knife and stealing cash from the register before fleeing on foot.Roughly 45 minutes later, police located the suspect and attempted to arrest him, however the man fled on foot.
Officers continued to chase the suspect and eventually caught up to the man after he had tripped and fallen. RCMP said a struggle between an officer and the suspect ensued, resulting in an officer striking the man before he could be detained.Police said once at the Eskasoni detachment, the suspect had allegedly assaulted an officer, resulting in the man being immediately taken to a cell and lodged for the night.Charles Marshall has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and two counts of breaching probation.
The accused was kept in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Sydney, N.S. on Sept. 5 at 9:30 a.m.
