StarEditorial: 'Kickstarting this moribund party back to political life will take hard work. It starts with electing a new leader, one able to forge a connection with voters, unlike Steven Del Duca.' 'That’s the task that confronts the Ontario Liberals.'

When Ontario Liberals gathered last weekend for their party convention, there were stirrings of a rebirth. It’s a revival that’s been long in the making.

A post-mortem released earlier this year said as much, concluding that weak organization, a dearth of cash and volunteers and lack of a clear platform all contributed to the humiliating loss“Many members and candidates felt we were trying to be too much of everything — and through that, we lost our way. We heard from candidates that people did not know what OLP stood for,” Qasir Dar, Patricia Favre and David Zimmer wrote.

That’s the challenge that the Ontario Liberals have faced — and failed — in the past two elections. The question is whether they will get the ingredients right in time to turn things around the next time Ontario voters go to the polls. Bonnie Crombie, the former Liberal MP who now serves as the mayor of Mississauga is noncommittal but did put in an appearance at the Liberal convention.
