The South End high school returned from the nordic skiing provincial championships with first place banners, one individual gold, three team golds, two team silvers, one team bronze and three individual bronze medals
Last Wednesday, Feb. 22, more than 500 high school cross-country ski racers packed buses and vans with skis, poles, boots and bags, all of them headed for Lakefield College and the 2023 OFSAA Nordic Championships, held February 23-24.
The remaining Jr. Boys put in impressive efforts of their own, with Corey Lacroix finishing fourth in the high school division and 19th overall, followed by Austin Conroy , Hector Loiselle , and Keir Gauld . Together, they combined to win the overall Jr. Boys championship. On the second day of competition, the focus shifts from the endurance of the long individual races to the lightning speed of the sprint relays, as teams look to combine for the fastest four legs over the 800m course.
Saving the best for last, the Sr. Boys team of Kaedan Ward, Liam Lacroix, Russel Joiner, and Sam Rice combined for the only sub-10-minute result, powering their way to a dazzling 9:48 gold-medal-winning time.
