The West Shore RCMP say the body of the 49-year-old woman who drowned in Prior Lake has been recovered, and the lake and surrounding trail are now reopened to the public.

In a news release Monday afternoon, RCMP say the death does not appear to be suspicious, and officers are working with the BC Coroners Service. It was around 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, when Mounties were called to the lake in Thetis Lake Regional Park for a report of a woman underwater. Paramedics and the View Royal Fire Department were also called to the scene.Prior Lake and the surrounding Mackenzie Creek Trail were subsequently closed and cordoned off with police tape Saturday “to allow crews the space and privacy they need to work,” said RCMP.
“We thank the public for their patience and send our condolences to the family and friends of the woman,” added Cpl. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer with West Shore RCMP, in the release.
