Dinos 'confident' they'll add national title to record-setting men's hockey season yyc
After an opening-round bye, Calgary faced the Saskatchewan Huskies and was handed a defeat in Game 1. The Dinos responded with their backs against the wall and earned back-to-back wins to advance to the Canada West final.
“UPEI is a team that works very hard and plays very fast and pressures the puck very quickly in all areas of the ice,” Howell said. “They play fast and heavy. They have some top-end forwards, who are very good on the power and transition. With a defenceman in Brassard, who was a U SPORT first-team all-star and played for Team Canada . The building will be packed, and the atmosphere will be electric for both teams.
“For our team to be successful, it will be status quo,” said Howell, who was named the U SPORTS hockey coach of the year late Wednesday. “And we need to focus on our game plan. We play our best when we play with tempo and get up ice and take time and space away. And when we focus on being above the puck and work quickly on transition, we’re not giving the opposition a lot of chances.
It’s the Dinos’ 13th appearance at the national finale, but the program is looking for its first win on the national stage since 1981.
