CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Despite arguing that his client, Harley David Coleman, could face
"serious bodily harm or death" from gang members if his name appeared in the media due to sexual assault allegations, a Charlottetown defence lawyer has not pursued a second chance at a publication ban.
Mullin's one and only attempt at a publication ban on Coleman's name was on June 29 – the last day of the two-day sexual assault trial in P.E.I. Supreme Court. Mullin informed the court that morning that he was seeking a discretionary publication ban on Coleman's name. Mullin did not ask for an adjournment but rather said he would make submissions in the afternoon.
Even so, Mullin's submissions were heard in the afternoon of June 29. Mullin argued that his client could face serious repercussions from Crazy Dragons gang members if Coleman's name was published in relation to the sexual assault charge. Mullin filed and referenced a legal case in support of his application.
