CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — One championship down, one more to go for the Hunter’s Corner Charlottetown Rugby Football Club (CRFC) Mudmen after winning the ...
The Hunter’s Corner Charlottetown Rugby Football Club Mudmen’s Joe Locke looks to drive his way through the tackle attempts of two Halifax Tars in the Nova Scotia league’s Division 1 championship game at Co-op Field in Charlottetown on Sept. 2. The Mudmen won the game 26-15 to win the McCurdy Cup and earn a berth in the Caledonia Cup Maritime championship on Sept. 30.
“For us, we’ve preached it all year long, we have a really strong brotherhood with this team,” Mudmen loose head prop Alex Forrest told SaltWire in a post-game interview. “We have been pushing each other all year for this. “I thought the Tars did a great job giving us a push at the end and we did a good job of holding to our plan and not giving in on defence,” said Field. “Offensively, we were able to counter with a push and finish it off. It was a full team effort.”
“We did make some changes in the second half that allowed us to put some points on the board,” said Field. “Once we got that lead, it was maintaining the distance, so we were always outside that one try score that gave us the confidence to play a little bit on the front foot, which was important.” Earlier in the day, the Mudmen defeated Pictou County 36-13 to win a semifinal game in the Nova Scotia league’s Division 2.
