A new FBI report shows a slight drop in active shooter incidents in 2023, but overall they are up 89% over the last 5 years.
Following the recommendation of the Planning Commission, Enterprise City Council Tuesday voted to approve the rezone of 30 acres of land along Porter Lunsford Road.
The request by Northstar Engineering Services on behalf of Lunsford & Lunsford Farms, drew dozens of residents to the Enterprise Civic Center to voice their concerns. “By City Council approving this rezone, the density is actually reduced because the developer wants to build single-family dwellings on the property,” City Engineer Barry Mott said. “The land was previously zoned to allow the developer to build three-story apartments. This rezone reduces the total number of units that will be built on that property from roughly 400 to roughly 200.”
The Planning Commission unanimously approved the proposal during the regularly scheduled meeting on April 9. Following the necessary public notice, the next step in the process included a hearing during the City Council meeting. Mott said rezone supports the Enterprise’s comprehensive plan, which calls for mixed use development in the area. While opponents to the rezone noted potential increase in traffic and cited safety concerns related to drainage, Mott said the infrastructure is in place to support the rezone.
