As the calendar turns to March 2022, Ohio is seeing relevant COVID-19 figures, like newly reported cases and hospitalizations, at their lowest point since last summer.
The number of reported coronavirus cases in Ohio in the last seven days continued to shrink, down more than 2,000 week-over-week. As of Saturday, that number was 6,504, compared to 8,705 on Feb. 26. Put another way, the figure decreased about 25% from last week.
The eight consecutive weeks of falling case numbers means the 21-day average also keeps falling, down to 1,347 from 2,123 on Feb. 26. Just one month ago, the 21-day average was 11,908. The daily patient count for those being treated for COVID-19 in the ICU fluctuated throughout the week, but it was ultimately lower on Saturday than it was the prior Saturday . That’s a difference of 51.According to the Ohio Hospital Association, the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations is down 22% over the past seven days; down 61% in the last 21 days and down 87% in the past 60 days.
Unlike the case and hospitalization figures, the weekly reported COVID death count has not been very consistent. From the end of 2021 and into the early weeks of 2022, the count steadily rose. Then, it began dropping. The count now appears to be oscillating – at least week-over-week.
