The Union of National Defence Employees national president is confident that if no additional funds are included, her members will vote \u0022no\u0022.
“Our number one concerns are always wage parity and the contracting out language,” Winger said. “Until we get the ratification text from the PSAC, the membership won’t necessarily be swayed one way or another.”
In a letter to members published Wednesday, leaders of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union said an “overwhelming” number of their members called on them to refuse the tentative agreement. Meanwhile, the proposed deal on teleworking was nowhere what her members wanted without language embedded in the agreement to allow for a formal grievance process.
If a vote is not ratified, members of that bargaining unit will be left without a contract, and the union will then be required to resume negotiations with the government. The process could potentially lead to another strike.Article content “As far as we’re concerned, this deal closes the gap with inflation, makes significant gains for workers, and puts our members in a strong position,” St-Jacques said.
The Government Services Union and the Union of Veterans Affairs Employees did not respond to a request to comment in time for publication.
