The Colorado DMV now accepts cryptocurrencies as payment for online services as the state continues to expand the available use cases for crypto payments.
- The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles announced on Thursday that it has begun accepting cryptocurrencies as payment for online services as the state continues to find more ways to make use of the asset class.
Customers will also be responsible for paying any transaction fees incurred in the process. The DMV includes a service fee of $1 plus 1.83% of the total, and “Paypal fees may apply as well,” they said, adding “PayPal is the only cryptocurrency provider being accepted at this time.” Colorado continues to be a leader in the integration of cryptocurrency payments in the U.S. In September 2022, the state became the first in the nation to accept crypto for tax payments, with residents able to pay their taxes through the “PayPal Cryptocurrencies Hub.”
The Colorado DMV is the first government agency in the state to explicitly announce that they accept cryptocurrency payments.
