China's Communist Party expelled a top Chinese police official who once headed Interpol, accusing him of accepting bribes and taking public funds
BEIJING—China’s Communist Party expelled a senior Chinese police official who once headed Interpol, accusing him of accepting bribes and taking public funds to support what state media called his family’s lavish lifestyle.
The allegations against Meng Hongwei, reported Wednesday by state media, add details to the downfall of an official whose posting as president of France-based Interpol was another marker of China’s ascendance—until he returned to Beijing last fall and was abruptly placed under investigation.
