The LDR-50 nuclear reactor is optimized for district heating, industrial steam production, and desalination projects.
Steady Energy states that it has already signed agreements for 15 LDR reactors in Finland, and is also expanding to Sweden and the Baltics.Finland-based Steady Energy has roped in global engineering company Tractebel – to assist in its LDR-50 nuclear reactor design and licensing process.
Steady Energy’s LDR-50 is a 50 MW small modular reactor specifically designed to produce heat up to 302 degrees Fahrenheit . The levelized cost of heat is below 42.3 dollars per MWh, and the plant is investable by a single energy utility without requiring government subsidies. Steady Energy says that the output is zero-carbon thermal power, and just a few units can warm an entire medium-sized city, whatever the weather.the simplicity of the system by saying, “Heating water to 150 degrees accounts for 10 percent of global emissions.
