Warren and Buttigieg go back and forth over whether big-check donors have a place in the Democratic primary, with Warren mocking a recent Buttigieg fundraiser in a wine cave
Ms. Warren mocked a recemt Buttigieg fundraiser. "So the mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900 a bottle wine. Think about who comes to that."
Ms. Warren and Mr. Buttigieg continued their back-and-forth over whether big-check donors have a place in the Democratic primary. Ms. Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders have sworn them off; Mr. Buttigieg does them regularly, as do other candidates. “People who can put down $5,000 to have a picture taken don’t have the same priorities as people who are struggling with student loan debt or struggling to pay off medical debt,” Ms. Warren said.“I’m not going to turn away anyone who wants to help us defeat Donald Trump,” Mr. Buttigieg responded.
“This is the problem with purity tests you cannot yourself pass,” the mayor said, noting that Ms. Warren herself is a millionaire.Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar capped the exchange with a reference of her own to the wine cave. "I have never even been to a wine cave. I have been to the wind cave in South Dakota, which I suggest you go to," she said.
