John Verran and Margaret Chipman and the 1978 and 1979 Bridgetown Regional High School girls' field hockey team will be inducted Saturday, Oct. 14. The ceremony will be held at the Bridgetown Legion beginning with a meet and greet at 5 p.m. and a dinner at 6 p.m.

Verran played junior A and B hockey as well as at the university level and was on Nova Scotia’s Canada Games team. A prolific goal-scorer, he enjoyed success both individually and with the teams he played on. Verran continued to play into his 60s.Chipman was a multi-sport athlete, who was widely known for her accomplishments and victories in field hockey and badminton, for which she was a two-sport Canada Games athlete.

The 1978 and 1979 field hockey teams were one of the strongest group in Nova Scotia at any level. They were dominant in their class, and defeated teams from much larger schools and a couple of university teams. Five of their players were named to the Nova Scotia junior team.
