So, yes, harm reduction and access to a “safer supply” are vital in saving lives. Not dying does not mean one has conquered addiction, but it is a necessary prerequisite to that ultimate objective. Alberta has a crisis of opioid deaths and a crisis of opioid addiction. It is not a matter of choosing harm reduction or treatment and recovery; we need both.Albertans remained in the dark for much of this year as to the extent of the opioid death crisis.
New numbers released last week show weekly EMS overdose responses climbed to an all-time high of 339 in the final week of June.
