Clear Lake pulls away late to down Clear Creek
Clear Lake’s Jerrick Guidry puts up a shot over Clear Creek’s Edward Lee Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at Clear Lake High School.Trying to distinguish between the team in playoff contention and its opponent, which was winless in District 24-6A, would have been a futile endeavor Friday night for the uninformed.
“It’s so hard for anybody to get wins in this district,” Clear Lake head coach Tommy Penders said. “Creek is a really tough basketball team, and in the second half I thought we made them work for everything.” That’s when Lake scored six straight, including four from Guidry and another offensive rebound and basket from Villarreal for a 55-47 lead with 1:54 showing.
“If our guys put tonight’s effort together every night, I think we would have at least two or three more wins by now,” Bryan said. Creek was able to battle Lake on even terms, largely because of the production from 6-4 junior guard Christian Umana.
