Before you quit your job, you need to understand what’s driving you to make that decision. It’s important to identify all of the factors influencing your decision. There are usually multiple reasons, so don’t limit yourself to narrowing it down just one. Once you understand why you want to quit, it will be much easier to figure out what you want to do next, and if quitting is truly the right decision.
Be brutally honest with yourself, as this is not a decision that should be made lightly. Take stock of all of your options and ensure that you’re making a fully informed decision. It can be helpful to make a list of pros and cons or likes and dislikes. Talk things over with your mentor and friends to get their input. Reach out to people who’ve recently quit their jobs to get their feedback and opinions.You need to have a plan for what comes next after you quit your job.
If you feel stuck in your career but are happy with your workplace in general, look into options like a lateral move or transferring to another department. Set up a meeting with your manager to discuss your feelings of stagnation or to position yourself for a raise or a promotion. More often than not, managers are unaware of their employees’ feelings towards their jobs, so be proactive and tactfully discuss your feelings with them.
