After backing out of the show, the musicians threw their own 'Petty Fest.'
However, Nia felt that his band, Ricky Lake, was offered a more favorable contract based on their reputation in the scene, not because they weren’t capable of selling as many tickets.
The second artist also had difficulties using Bridging the Music’s web platform, which required a $9.99 registration fee. However, due to a ticketing agreement with Starline Social Club, artists needed to use a special link in order to receive credit for the sale. The musician who spoke on background had difficulty at several steps in the process and noticed several other musicians sharing incorrect links.
Eventually, other acts on the bill pulled out, and the event disappeared from Starline Social Club’s calendar. The venue’s general manager, Marcus Osborne, told SFGATE that he was unaware of the show and directed any questions to the booking agent. Bridging the Music initially declined to refund deposits but eventually relented, according to the artists who spoke with SFGATE. The artist who agreed to a $700 deposit did eventually receive their initial payments back on Feb. 18, the same day SFGATE reached out for comment.
