SEATTLE — Astros second baseman Jose Altuve took batting practice for the second straight day and admitted he was surprised at the accelerated pace of his rehab from a fractured right thumb.
“I don’t think we expected that but obviously I’ve been working hard every day and feel really good right now,” Altuve said before Sunday’s game against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. Altuve, who had surgery March 22 to repair the thumb, was cleared to swing a bat earlier in the week. He said things went better than anticipated hitting off a tee and then soft toss that the decision was madeHe said he was “definitely” surprised at feeling so well this soon. After his surgery, Astros general manager Dana Brown said Altuve wouldn’t resume baseball activities for at least two months.
