Every day, Gillis talks to their picture and he has vowed to keep their memory alive every way he can, including in the restoration of the family's prized possession — a 1977 Ford Pinto.Bought in 2006 for $150, Aaron was a mechanic and was in the process of redoing the car to give to Emily when she turned 18. Since Gillis did body work, his"brother from a different mother" asked him to do the shell work.
It was a couple of years before the two became friends and from that point on their friendship became as close as brothers. "Aaron could make something out of nothing," said Gillis."He was a real MacGyver and they all loved that car … they would have given up their home before giving up that car." Jason Gillis wanted to make sure the Tuck family were always with the 1977 Pinto they loved so much. Their ashes were added to some of the paint to have them a part of the car. Gillis plans on doing the same when he paints his classic Mercury Capri, which Aaron Tuck lent him money to buy in 1997. CONTRIBUTED - ContributedGillis' priority has been to get the classic car restored the way Aaron would have wanted.
The roof of the 1977 Pinto was specially done for"the girls" — Jolene Tuck and daughter Emily — using an old curtain bought at Value Village for a quarter as the stencil. CONTRIBUTED - ContributedCarstar provided a space for the Pinto to be painted and helped secure donations of supplies to help cover some of the thousands of dollars needed for the restoration.
