Nearly 500 gas pumps in Alberta were cited by federal inspectors over a four\u002Dyear period for dispensing less fuel than advertised.
Of the 1,598 inspections that indicated a measurement failure, about two-thirds — or 1,018 — were against the seller.
Twenty-four per cent of the largest measurement error fails went against motorists compared to just over 10 per cent that went against traders. A pair of Shell stations — one in west Calgary the other on Highway 16 east of Edmonton — were statistically the worst for sellers. A handful of pumps failed inspections due to temperature errors where a greater than 1 C temperature difference was noted, resulting in a misreading.
