Haley Young, from Dominion, N.S., who joined the cadet program in February, said she appreciates the help provided by other cadets in learning new skills, such as speaking in front of groups.GLACE BAY, N.S. — Air cadets from eight squadrons in Cape Breton recently gathered at the Dr. Guglielmo Marconi Armoury in Glace Bay for a two-day training program.
The training aimed to develop the skills of cadets in airport and aerodrome operations, forest survival and public speaking. Capt. Robert Nearing from the Regional Cadet Support Unit conducted a session on airport operations, explaining the features of ground facilities, airport layout and air traffic control.The cadets also attended a class on tool safety for axes and bow saws and put their skills to the test by constructing emergency survival shelters using minimal supplies and natural resources.
The cadet program is open to youth between the ages of 12-18 and focuses on developing skills such as leadership, physical fitness and good citizenship.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
