Democrats were shaken by President Joe Biden's uneven performance at Thursday night's debate.
“It wasn’t a good performance,” Veasey told reporters Friday. “I don’t think that anybody’s going to say that it was a good performance. It certainly was not.”Veasey said it’s too early to say how the debate will be received by voters, and he encouraged fellow Democrats to chill out and enjoy time with their constituents and families over next week’s July 4th recess.
U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas, who is challenging Cruz in November’s election, declined to comment on Biden’s performance as he left the Capitol after votes Friday, saying he was “still processing” the debate.She highlighted Trump’s repeated comments about other countries sending people from their prisons and mental health facilities across the border, saying such remarks are “horrific.”
“Last night was not the night that I had hoped for, that any of us had hoped for,” she said. “But I think there needs to be a real conversation about the things that Donald Trump said. It is beyond vile.” Veasey also sought to put the focus on Trump, saying Republicans should be engaged in soul-searching about the “crazy stuff” said by their nominee.“I’m going to do everything that I can to make sure that Biden gets reelected,” Veasey said.
Asked whether Texas Democrats in competitive races should distance themselves from Biden, Veasey said they should keep doing what they’re doing and look forward., Washington correspondent.
