Tuesday night on the Upper East Side, A La Vieille Russie and Vogue’s Jewelry Director Grace Givens hosted an exclusive viewing of the exhibition “Deceptively Modern Jewelry.”
’s jewelry director Grace Givens hosted an exclusive viewing of the exhibition. As guests arrived at the ALVR showroom, they heard the dreamy sounds of singer Claire Khodara, who serenaded the crowd as they “shopped.”
Of the fine jewelry baubles on display—exquisite post-war vintage wares from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and many more—Peter Schaffer, director of ALVR, explained that every single piece has a coup de foudre impact on him. “Their collection of antique objects, ranging from Fabergé cases to one-of-a-kind jewels, is timeless and expertly curated,” explains Givens, who identified a gold necklace made out of vintage bullets as one of her favorite pieces.
Guests like Victor Glemaud, Jonathan Cohen, Marion Fasel, Maria Dueñas Jacobs, and Beth Bugdaycay of Foundrae were captivated by the treasures. Everyone sipped Champagne while perusing the sights, which included a selection of unique vintage couture from Katy Kane. “What New Yorker did not love standing in front of the windows of ALVR when it was on Fifth Avenue to pick the jewels she would buy? [...] Now you have to take an escalator to see the treasures, but the trip is well worth it,” said Lynn Yaeger. So too is a tour of the exhibition, on through November 15.
