Powerful winds howled across the SF Bay Area Thursday morning. What's next in the weather forecast?
"We still have the wind advisory out through 11 a.m. Thursday for the entire North Bay and interior portions of the East Bay," weather service forecaster Roger Gass said.
Altamont Pass, a low mountain pass in the East Bay, saw some of the most powerful winds with a 61 mph gust recorded around 4 a.m. Winds on the pass were"sitting at 59 mph" at 6 a.m., Gass said. Nearby, Patterson Pass saw wind gusts up 50 mph. Mount Diablo peaked at 51 mph. The winds are on a downward trend at the moment and this should continue through the day," Gass said."But regardless of the wind advisory expiring at 11 a.m., we are expecting breezy conditions through the day, especially along the coastal ranges. But those gusts should fall into the 30 to 40 mph range later today."
Light winds are in the forecast on Friday and with high pressure building, temperatures are expected to rise. Afternoon highs Friday are forcast to break into the 70s in inland areas. "The winds will remain strong out over the ocean on Friday," Gass said."Inland, we'll have winds out of the northwest. It'll be a bit breezy on Friday."
