U.S. District Judge Cynthia Bashant sentenced Mata to 15 years in prison, and sentenced Curtis to 12.5 years. On Jan. 30, 2021, Curtis and Parrish exchanged text messages about buying fentanyl acquired from Mata, federal prosecutors said. Curtis picked up Parrish and the two drove to a casino to meet Mata, who provided the firefighter with the drug, prosecutors said.
