The executive and board members of B.C.-based Artemis Gold own about a 40 per cent stake in the company.
Artemis Gold’s Blackwater gold-and-silver mine, which just received its mining permit, expects to begin producing gold in the second half of 2024 in north central B.C.Two more phases in the next 10 years will bring the milling rate of material to about 20 million tonnes a year, which would make it one of the largest gold mines in Canada.
Ulkatcho First Nation officials said they have been involved in the environmental assessment process of the mine since 2015. The project has been designed to have one of the smallest carbon footprints for an open pit mine, says the company. The mine will tap into the B.C. Hydro power grid with a 120-km power line. The process plant will be fully electrified with all components normally run by diesel and propane replaced with electric equipment.
