In most elections, the economy is top of mind for voters. But given the intense drought and extreme weather this summer, a reader implores voters to place addressing climate change a the top of their list this election.The GOP keeps hammering incessantly about the economy. In normal times, the economy is usually the main topic of concern. But these are not normal times. They haven’t been “normal,” in terms of the climate, for decades.
Scientists have been warning us for years about our warming world, and Republicans have ignored them. Climate change is happening, and if we are worried about high prices now, wait until crops fail and certain foods won’t be available, much less affordable. Wildfires are decimating our forests. Drought will make water the new focus of conflict between countries and even states in America. Immigrants fleeing climate catastrophes will make Gov. Greg Abbott’s head spin.
Nowhere in the Front Page article does it cite the Congressional Budget Office or the University of Pennsylvania Penn Wharton Budget Model conclusions that the changes would have a “negligible” impact on inflation this year and next, and “the impact on inflation is statistically indistinguishable from zero.”Bill Bruetsch
