Young Mets pitcher was one of the bright spots of the team coming out of camp in March
— Mets prospect Nate Lavender was one of the standouts of spring training in March. Though he started the year in Triple-A Syracuse, seeing him make his MLB debut this season would not have been a surprise.
“I like to say, you throw 92 with a little doubt in there, it’s probably going to get hit pretty hard,” Lavender said after his first spring outing in February. “You throw 92 with some grit and some intention behind it, you’re going to be alright.” In other injury news, the Mets received good news regarding reliever Drew Smith on Thursday. Smith felt a pinch on the back of his right shoulder on Tuesday, a new injury from the one that landed him on the IL in April
