Federal prosecutors have charged the defendant with being a felon in possession of a loaded handgun.
OAKLAND — A Bay Area man has been arrested and charged with brandishing a gun at a popular Concord amusement park for children, court records show.
Mashavu Tivon Turner was charged with being a felon in possession of a loaded pistol with a green laser sight. He was arrested last January, nearly a year after the incident, and in late March waived his right to be charged by indictment. His next court date is set for late May. Prosecutors allege Turner walked up to a woman who was in her car at the parking lot of Pixieland in Concord, on Olivera Road, tapped on her window, and told her, “You’re messing with the wrong dude.” The woman told police he pointed a gun at her.
Concord police arrived about 15 minutes later, stopped a pickup truck that matched the woman’s description, found a loaded pistol inside, and arrested Turner, according to the criminal complaint. Turner wasn’t allowed to possess guns due to a 2008 conviction for selling crack cocaine, for which he received 10 years in prison, the complaint says.
Turner was subsequently released, and federal prosecutors charged him two months later. The charges remained under seal until Turner’s Jan. 22, 2022 arrest. Four days later, a federal magistrate released Turner on a $50,000 bond, court records show.
